Istanbul Holiday Haul

No holiday is complete without a little shopping. Of course I did a little bit of duty free shopping as well as buying some bits and bobs while in Istanbul. We also found Sephora at one of the malls, so I restocked on face masks and got a few goodies for friends. Here's what I picked up for myself =)

Duty Free: My first Nars blusher (Outlaw) and my favourite fragrance, Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire EDT.

Carrefour and Local shops: Colouring book full of pretty patterns, Smiley stickers, Little bowl for my desk (most likely for rings), blue woven purse and mini keychain purse.

Sephora and Sightseeing: Fibre mask discovery set, Pore clarifying mask and three bookmarks.

Handmade Turkish soaps from a local shop. (L-R Argan Oil, Tumeric and Himalyan Salt).

On the whole, I think I did pretty well and didn't overspend. The Turkish soaps are suitable for use on the face and body, so I'll be using them to cleanse my face in the mornings. Unfortunately, the summer holidays are coming to an end and now it's time to start getting prepared for work.

Cake International 2013 at London Excel

[Note: Picture heavy post]

On Saturday, I went to the Cake International Show at London Excel (with my mum, aunt and cousin). I didn't buy much as I'm not a professional baker, so I didn't need to pick up tools, equipment, supplies etc. (although I did get a cake pop kit and some cupcakes to eat). I'm glad that I did go as there was an exhibition of cakes that people had decorated and to put it simply, they were amazing! Instead of me babbling on, I'll let the pictures do the talking =)

This one was my favourite! All those miniature cakes, biscuits and desserts must have taken ages to make!

Mendhi on cake! Two of my favourite things combined =)

This cake looked like it had tiny caviar beads stuck onto it to make the pattern (not sure what technique was used to create the texture)

Handmade flowers. Extremely fiddly to make and so delicate.

This is actually a stack of biscuits! Makes such a cute little layer cake (look-a-like) though =)

 

I didn't manage to take pictures of all the cakes, but there were plenty more amazing pieces of art that didn't resemble cake and icing at all!

I found a whole bunch of hijab pins that I had made but never actually used (and I'm running out of space to store them), so I'm putting them on here if anyone would like them. They are individually priced (as listed below) but open to offers =). Most pins have been made using Swarovski bicone beads, with silver plated pins and chain. What I've been up to recently

So exams have been over for two weeks now, and I've been keeping myself quite busy. From the Pearl Daisy Smiles Better event, to more recently painting canvases, making jewellery and doing more henna, I've been indulging my creative side (which I neglected over the past few months). If you follow me on Instagram, you're probably well informed of what I've been doing (I seem to Instagram everything at the moment!). Palestyle Clutch Bag (prices from 850AED). Gorgeous array of colours to choose from, and the writing on the clutch can be customised (would love to have my name on a clutch bag!). Also love the fact that Palestyle is a company that empowers refugee women in need, mostly in refugee camps of Jordan as well as Lebanon & Palestine, by giving them an income against their work, a % of sale from all items that we sell. The % of sales is either extended to them directly to help cover their living expenses or to causes and or organizations that supports those women. These women handmake all the embroidery designs which are used in Palestyle items.

HFW Nov 2011 - Day 3

Break the Rules: Abaya + Trainers

Actually, I was going to 'break' a different fashion rule, until I realised that it has become a fashion trend itself. Nevertheless, I have still incorporated this 'not-so-broken' rule into my outfit =)

Abaya and trainers are not really a good combination (in my opinion). Especially when you're wearing a fancy, blinged-out abaya (but I didn't wear mine for Today's theme). However, seeing as I can't walk in heels, and there are some days when I can't be bothered to wear flat shoes/boots, trainers are the only footwear option available (did I mention I hate showing my feet? That rules out sandals!). Anyways, here's my outfit for HFW day 3 =)

Also, the other not-so-broken rule is the mixing/clashing of colours and patterns. But like I said before, it's becoming the norm to wear different colours/patterns in an outfit.
