OOTD: Eid Gathering
Every year, I attend the annual Eid Gathering, which is organised by members of different families, and it is basically a way of us as a family (and a community) getting to know one another and to keep in touch as well as enjoy a meal. This basically means that I am in some way related to every single person that attends (which is pretty cool) even if I don't know who they are (I'm sure we have a mutual family acquaintance somewhere). The kids get given Eid gifts at the end and there is also a raffle for the adults, and it's a nice way to spend an afternoon as it might be the only time (other than at weddings) where I would meet these family members. And this year's Eid gathering was held yesterday and so I thought to show you what I wore to the lunch =)
The abaya is Bisht style (I think) and I love the brown border on the cuffs and neckline. It's made of a soft jersey fabric, but because of the cut and style, it doesn't stick to the body and therefore makes it extremely modest. I paired the abaya with a pair of lace ballet flats from New Look and wore the matching hijab in a simple wrap with a few folds. The only accessories were my side bag (again from New Look) and the F21 gold stackable rings. Simple yet stylish!
What do you think?

OOTD: Eid
This is the outfit I wore for Eid! A gorgeous blue farasha with some (very heavy) diamante work on the neckline. I love the loose fit (it comes with ties on the inside to give the outfit some shape) and the flowiness of the material (it comes fully lined which is a major plus!). I wore minimal accessories, with only a few stackable rings and a silver clutch. Started off the day in nude heels, but for the evening I wore flat sandals as we were having a barbeque =)
[I also wore this outfit for my Graduation in July =) ]
How did you celebrate Eid, and what did you wear?

Eid Mubarak! [giveaway closed]
Eid Mubarak to all my blog readers! I hope you all have a wonderful day and may it be filled with lots of love and blessings (and chocolate of course!) =)
Just a small giveaway to celebrate Eid! Even though my last giveaway only ended at the beginning of the month, I thought that Eid is a time for giving presents, so why not give a gift to blog reader!
The main prize is actually something that has come in very useful to me. It's a small book called Fortress of the Muslim, which is basically full of Invocations from the Quran and Sunnah. I find this a great book as it's pocketsized, which means you're able to learn something new on the go. The rest of the prize will contain surprise goodies (because we all love surprises!).
All you have to do is answer the question - What did you learn/gain from Ramadhan this year?
My own answer to this question would be that I gained an appreciation for everyone who was working during the month of Ramadhan. This is the first time that I've actually worked during Ramadhan, and combining 9-10 hour shifts with 16 hour fasts really did mean that I had to focus more on how to conserve my energy during the day, as most of the days I left for work at 5:30 am and returned at 6pm. Alhamdullilah, I found myself drinking a lot more water at suhoor and iftaar, and not drinking coffee in the morning, which I am hoping to continue after Ramadhan. InshaAllah next Ramadhan, I'll plan so that I am not working!
Rules:
- You must follow the blog via GFC
- You must answer the question in the comments box below.

- Giveaway ends on Saturday 25th August 2012 at 10pm BST

Chocoholic Hijabi bakes: Monkey Puzzles
Every Eid without fail, my mum, sister and I do a lot of baking. Most of which is distributed to friends and family on Eid morning. Some of the recipes come from cookbooks (the most used one is Busy Biscuits by Hafsa Kasak) and other recipes are ones that my mum has collected over the years in a number of notebooks. The Monkey Puzzles recipe is one of these, and I'm not too sure where the name comes from. Anyway, this recipe is short and simple (and you may want to double or triple the mixture, as I did!).

As you can see, this recipe is very popular judging by how stained the page is!
Monkey Puzzles
(click on the pictures to make them bigger)
(click on the pictures to make them bigger)
Ingredients:
2 and 1/2 oz Plain Flour
1 and 1/2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
3 oz Margarine
3 oz Golden Syrup
1 oz Cornflakes (crushed coursely)
To decorate:
Plain/Milk cake covering chocolate
Sprinkles
Method:
Preheat oven to Gas Mark 4.
Sift the flour and cocoa powder twice.
In a separate bowl, cream the margarine and golden syrup together.
Add the flour, cocoa powder and cornflakes to the mixture and stir until well blended.
Place spoonfuls of the mixture (walnut size, although mine were bigger) onto a greased tray and bake for 12-15 minutes.
Once baked, place on a wire tray to cool (note: the monkey puzzles will still be soft, but they will harden slightly once cooled).
Melt chocolate according to instructions on the packet
(I do mine on the stove as I somehow always burn the chocolate in the microwave).
Dip the tops of the monkey puzzles into the chocolate and decorate with sprinkles.
Enjoy!
Let me know if you decide to make these and how they turned out!

HFW Nov 2011 - Day 5
Eid & Formal
So this is an outfit I wore for Eid last year (see this previous blog post for what I wore this year for Eid-ul-Fitr). I also wore this outfit for a wedding (or some kind of formal gathering) so this is one that best represents what I wear for occasions =) (and it's one of my favourite!)
It's a two piece abaya with a plain abaya underneath and a (sort of) beaded overcoat (for lack of better word) in a purple colour (but it's more of a red toned purple) with silver beadwork. I love the little beaded paisley motifs =)
Check out the formal/eid outfits from other sisters here =)

Eid:OOTD and other stuff
My first ever OOTD (of yesterday) and random ramblings about Eid.

So, on Eid I wore a jilbab that I had previously worn to a neighbour's wedding at the beginning of July. The jilbab was made in India and is a turquoise/green colour with embroidery, beading and crystal embellishment. I wore bangles (from The Inayah Collection, with additional diamante bangles) and managed to do henna on one hand only (unfortunately). My hijab style was inspired by this tutorial from Amenakin, and I somehow achieved this look using plenty of stick pins, two mirrors and a bit of trial and error. I used the scarf that came with the jilbab and a teal lace scarf from Pearl Daisy.
Also, prior to Eid day, we had done some baking (it's kind of a tradition to do baking before Eid) and here is a picture to show you some of the goodies we made. These included Cake Pops, Lamingtons, Toffee Tarts, Aero biscuits and Hungarian Tarts among other tasty things =)
Yummy Treats!
I hope everyone enjoyed their Eid as much as I did! (Although the Eid celebrations are still continuing for another day or two) =)
and InshaAllah I'll be announcing the winner of the Ramadhan Giveaway tomorrow =)

Eid Mubarak!
Sale Find: Monsoon
Now, I love Monsoon clothing. Especially the maxi dresses as they come in gorgeous colours and are embellished with varying amounts of detail. But their prices are simply way too much for a uni student like me. At this current moment though, the Cleo Embellished Maxi Dress is on sale at the amazing price of £25.50 (reduced from £85.00), which I think is an amazing bargain. Also, the back of this dress is completely covered! No random cutouts or a low back neckline! I think this would be a great dress to wear for eid (if maxi dresses are more your style). Simply add a shrug, to cover the arms and a cream hijab. Accessorise with a cream clutch bag and gold bangles.

Hope this helps someone =)

Hijabi Tip: Occasion Wear
So it can sometimes be a little difficult to find something to wear for special occasions if you're a hijabi. Depending on whether the occasion is segregated (e.g. dinner events/weddings) or mixed (e.g. Eid/weddings) and whether or not it's at your home or at another venue, you have to dress accordingly. As I wear a jilbab, I've become used to wearing jilbabs to occasions although there are plenty of other oufit choices that can be easily hijabified and worn to special occasions.
Here are a few idea's which can be adapted to form Hijabi Occasion Wear:
From abaya's to maxi dresses, embellished tunics paired with wide leg trousers to flowy shalwar suits, there's no limit as to how to mix and match your clothes to find your perfect outfit for any occasion. All that's needed now are a few accessories and a classy hijab to finish the look.
Let me know what you would wear at an occasion or event =)
