100+ Reading Challenge March Update

As of today (31/03/2011) I have read 13 books for the 100+ reading challenge. It's going a bit slowly, due to the amount of coursework and other random stuff that's going on, so I don't have a lot of time/motivation for reading books. Hopefully will read more after the exams and during the summer! Check out what I've read by clicking here =)

Only 87 more books to go! Anyone who has recommendations for books, let me know! (I could do with some ideas)

Women and Islam

I read this on an fb fanpage and it made me laugh, but it shows the true status of women in Islam:

"A man came to a Muslim and asked:
Why is it not permissible in Islam for women to shake hands with a man?
The Muslim said: Can you shake hands with Queen Elizabeth?
The man said : Of course not, there are only certain people who can shake hands with Queen Elizabeth.
Muslim replied: Our women are our queens, and queens do not shake hands with strange men!"

(Un)lucky Number Two

Two coursework papers. Two deadlines. (Less than) Two weeks. Another Two months until exams. Makes me wonder what I ever did to the number two =/

On the plus side, two weeks until Easter holidays which means three weeks of learning, revising and possibly enjoying the sunshine (if it lasts). Can't wait!

What's everyone else been upto?

Awesome Tutorial

I found this tutorial on Youtube and it shows you how to create one of those bows that you would usually see on the front of a blouse or dress. Kinda like this Alexander McQueen one. Only this bow is on your hijab =)

Doesn't it look amazing? And so easy right? I definately know what I'll be trying out in the near future =D

Style Hijabified: Angelina Jolie

Wow! Haven't done a Style Hijabified post in quite a while =)

Anyway, this is what Angelina Jolie wore to the Madrid premiere for The Tourist. First of all I thought it was a simple black maxi dress, until the description stated that she was actually wearing trousers.

I love this look because it's so easy to replicate. I mean all you really need is a basic pair of wide leg black trousers and a black tunic top/dress. You could change the colours around to suit your own style and preferences. Unfortunately, a few of the items I used in the set seem to be unavailable on the websites, so improvise with your own wardrobe. Add a long white cardigan, a printed scarf and a smart pair of heels. Accessorise with patterned, wide bangles to add some sparkle. And there you have it, a simple look which can be dressed up or down depending on the occassion. I'd find this a perfect look for an interview, swapping the cardigan for a blazer or if I wanted to go a bit more casual, I'd wear a flat pair of shoes and maybe a long beaded/chain necklace =)

Hijabi Tip: Hairbands

One easy way to glam up your hijab is to add a hairband while putting your hijab on. It can be anything from a simple strands of beads, to a gorgeous corsage complete with glitter and gemstones. And they don't have to be stretchy ones because you can use Alice bands too! Just tuck the ends into the parts of the hijab so they can't be seen =)

Here are a few examples of hairbands which you could use:

I personally prefer more simple stretchy hairbands (as you can see from the picture below), although I do like the corsage ones for special occasions. Here's a few which I've collected over the years (quite a few of them from Primark). The more simpler styles usually come in packs if two or three =)

How do you accessorise your hijab?
